HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY
GENERAL SAFETY POLICY
The responsibility for safety at work rests upon both management and employees. The management will ensure that this policy is pursued throughout the organisation. The management will take all reasonably practicable precautions to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of its employees by providing: 1. Safe plant and systems of work. 2. Minimum risk to health in handling, storage, transportation and disposal of materials, in particular, those which come under the provisions of the Control of Substances, Hazardous to Health Regulations 1994 (COSHH) (see later) 3. Adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure the Health & Safety of employees. 4. A safe and healthy environment, including safe access to, and egress from the workplace, and by way of regular assessment, the observance of COSHH and the noise at work regulations. 5. Any necessary protective clothing e.g. helmets, goggles, ear defenders, gloves and waterproof clothing. 6. The encouragement of discussion of safety between site management and operatives. 7. First aid equipment may be necessary in regard to the number of persons employed on the site. 8. Effective fire prevention and fire control procedure. 9. All amenities required by the regulation and accepted code of practice such as, mess rooms, toilets washing facilities, drying rooms, first aid rooms, etc. Taking into account the maximum number of persons likely to be employed on the site.
ASBESTOS In the case of asbestos insulation, and coating materials, no work shall be undertaken except by a licensed asbestos contractor. Other asbestos containing products, e.g. insulation board, cement and floor tiles shall not be worked with, or disturbed, unless specifically instructed to do so by a supervisor. Supervisors must carry out the accepted methods of working with asbestos which include:
1 Obtaining adequate information on the products. 2 Carrying out sampling. 3 Packaging and disposal of waste. 4 Wearing of protective clothing masks etc. |
